I am curious, What is your WPM?
The highest WPM for the 5 minute and the 1 minute, shared in the comments, will be ...

Let's kick it off with this :)
Impressive, I have never been able to achieve more than 41WPM while taking the test.
Wow 😮!
Impressive typing speed 🙂
Figured I would share a bit about my typing journey, as I am kind of an enthusiast when it comes to ergonomics.
First, would like to share typ.ing/ (made by ZSA, the keyboard people behind the Ergodox EZ, Moonlander, etc.) as my favorite place to test new layouts and type. Notably, they have an option to paste your own example text and various settings for programming examples. Their daily challenges get progressively harder throughout the week and are some good practice with the ramp up.
I swapped to an Ergodox-EZ when I started my first full time programming gig to invest in my long term joint health. After playing World of Warcraft (Runescape and Diablo 2 are other notable examples, which were where I learned to type) as a teenager for 16-hour days, I needed a way to not feel pain in my hands. My typing journey will hopefully evolve to a non-QWERTY layout in the future. Right now, I am happy with my current Moonlander setup. Thankfully, my hand pain is mostly gone nowadays. I do type with a fairly large tent on each side, because ideally our typing position should be as close to a resting position as possible. Like playing the piano, you don't want your wrists below your fingers. Unlike a piano, you can get split boards and tent them into a natural position!
I am saving this for tomorrow morning when I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
Sounds good! Keep us posted on your WPM :)
I was super distracted by the content LOL, it was about how common eating insects is and I couldn't stop smiling.
Crazy and great work. How did you get distracted by how common eating insects is among other things lol
It never really came across my mind so it was out of the box for a moment, I laughed a bit at reading somewhere they serve roasted ants XD
I'll be honest though, I don't think I can do the 5minute one with that level of accuracy
Great work
Yea great work!
Either way, you should attempt the 5 min one to see if you can get it at least for fun! :D
Though, we both know our reaction to this (But it's worth a shot):

I went for it... dev.to/jonmarkgo/comment/369l8
Goals! lol
Dude, I'm tired! This is too much! I haven't written this much here in a week. I think this is a normal result. I think I'm a little faster than someone who types with one finger?
One finger is crazy. But yea it is tiring since it's 5 mins straight. @konark_13 gave me the best link to test the community on since it's not short and sweet. Wanna see how long can someone last doing this. Though, great work with one finger!
I'll go with two fingers and a thumb 😂. Thanks to you for making this an amazing challenge and making the community part of it.
I expressed myself a little incorrectly, I meant that I type so slowly (as it seems to me) that even another person could probably do it faster with one finger.
Ahh makes sense. Thanks for clarifying but also thanks to sharing too!
If you like to take the one minute one, feel free! Made it where you have two options instead of doing the 5 min since it is a pain to do. Sorry for last minute changes 🫠
Five straight minutes of typing, I don't know I'm up for that!
I got you! Let me make two separate things. One minute and a 5 min. Either one is fine :)
@ben Made the update. Feel free to take either one if you are up for it and have time :)
Now I need a way to add the typing sound on any site / app
It is satisfying for me in my opinion, though listening to it for 5 mins straight is crazy. I think it's easy to implement since it is just detecting the key press and playing the sound. p5.js makes it easy in my opinion.
Could've been better tbh.
I'll stop by next month to compete. It was a cool idea to share WPM and have a healthy competition. You made everyone tired with 5min. Loved the idea. Keep up the great work. I'll compete next month with better accuracy.
Me typing rn:
I'm surprise you can get a certification on there? I would assume you need to sign in though. Great work tho :D
Yeahh you'd need to sign in actually. I didn't see where i could screenshot so i just had to xD
Ahh I see. This checks out then! Good work!
Thanks!!!
well this was cool

Really fun idea, enjoyed it! :)
Great job Marina! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Love typing.com ! Powered by Playwire

I tried haha
Omg! Sonic is my favorite show in the world.
Longest continuous writing of the month, did kinda bad given that english is not my main

😅
WOOOOF I am never doing that again!!!

Oh my, it's addictive... 😅
My fingers hurt.

I'm at 80 WPM hahahaha

My 1-minute result!
5-minutes seem bit longer and I don't think I can maintain same speed and accuracy for that long :D
My typing speed is natural, i learn home row keys in 2022, but after using ai too much for studying and development, my fingers naturally adjusted to correct orientation. if you see my fingers they move randomly, not touch typing. but guess typing. plus i think i can go higher with burst of one minute test than 5m test since later are longer and normally you get tired typing for so long at steady pace. but still having 99% accuracy at 63 wpm is impressive, a huge thumbs up.
Usually I'm a little faster (in the 80s) but for some reason the word vegetable just messes me up.
That's closer to normal...
I got 85 haha
One thing I noticed is that most WPM tests don’t really reflect how we type as developers, since we deal with symbols, indentation, and syntax.
I’ve actually been working on a small tool that focuses on typing real code instead of plain text, and the difference in speed is pretty noticeable.
Curious if you think WPM is even a good metric for coding?
my average is like 80wpm usually but this is what i tried and did:
Sounds good to me!
It's kinda hard. But this is decent for that typing test lol
I done did it

I done did it

I think I knocked it out of the park... or tried to.
